E134 on a Baxi boiler means: gas valve open with no gas detected. The boiler tried to light (or keep the flame lit) but could not detect a flame, so it locked out for safety.
This code applies to Baxi 600/800 Combi. Codes can mean different things on different models, so check the display against your boiler's user manual.
What you can safely check
- Check that other gas appliances, like the hob, are working. If they aren't, the problem is your gas supply rather than the boiler.
- If you have a prepayment meter, make sure it is in credit.
- Check the gas isolation valve on the pipe into the boiler and at the meter is open (the handle in line with the pipe).
- In freezing weather, check the condensate pipe — the plastic pipe running from the boiler outside to a drain. If it is frozen, thaw it by pouring warm (not boiling) water over it or holding a hot water bottle against it.
- Press reset once, following the instructions in your user manual.
When to call an engineer
If the code returns after a single reset, call a Gas Safe engineer. Causes include the ignition electrode, flame sensor, gas valve or flue, all of which are inside the sealed casing.
Never remove the boiler casing yourself — everything behind it must be handled by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you smell gas, open windows, turn the gas off at the meter, and call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.
Repair it, or replace it?
If your boiler is over 10 years old, compare a repair against a new combi before you pay for parts.
